He loves to sit on laps. He went to the Whitewater Center for an adoption event and all he wanted to do was to sit in the handlers’ lap the entire time. He’s such a wonderful little dog that would make a great addition to any family.

Attorneys for stage builder Mid-America Sound Corp. (which built the roof and rigging used to hold lights and sound equipment that collapsed during the Aug. 13 show) had wanted Sugarland bandmembers Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush to begin providing depositions this week. However, because they were on tour, the band wanted to instead hold the depositions in May.

The Indiana judge, though, has now ordered that depositions take place between April 1 and 15. Only singer Jennifer Nettles is being required to appear at this time.

According to the AP, Sugarland spokesman Allan Mayer said in a statement that the band is “aware of the judge’s ruling and of course intends to cooperate.”

Even though the studio was filled with such luminaries as Randy Scruggs, Matt Rollings and Lloyd Maines (father of singer Natalie Maines), producers Blake Chancey and Paul Worley always made sure the ladies were in the spotlight.

The result was a 14-song set that offered much the same as their record-breaking debut: high-spirited country pop songs with plenty of twang and lots of female empowerment lyrics.

Six singles sprang from Fly along with two GRAMMY wins and two more nominations, not to mention sales of 10 million copies since its release in October 1999.

Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010, Williams has been mostly retired in recent years on his Tennessee farm. However, he recently announced he’ll be releasing a brand new album, his first in eight years.

Titled And So It Goes, the album is due to hit stores June 19, courtesy of Sugar Hill Records. You can get a taste of what’s to come via the Soundcloud link that Sugar Hill posted for the track “What If It Worked Like That.”

The album is produced by Don’s longtime collaborator Garth Fundis, and it will feature such esteemed guests as Keith Urban, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill.

“We weren’t looking to reinvent Don,” Fundis has said, “just to make a good new Don Williams record.”

“The longer you do it [songwriting, recording, and performing], the harder it becomes to do things that aren’t just an echo of something you’ve already done,” writes Williams on his website. “Of course, when you do lock into it, the fact that you’ve lived all those years and seen so much allows you to bring a lot of things to the song you couldn’t have when you were starting out.”

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old man. He was sitting in the park, just staring at some pigeons. The boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old man looked hungry, so he offered him some chips. He gratefully accepted it and smiled at him.

His smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered him a root beer. Again, he smiled at him. The boy was delighted!  They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word.

As twilight approached, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up To leave; but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old man, and gave him a hug. He gave him his biggest smile ever..

When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face.

She asked him, “What did you do today that made you so happy?”  He replied, “I had lunch with God.” But before his mother could respond, he added, “You know what? He’s got the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen!”

Meanwhile, the old man, also radiant with joy, returned to his home.  His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he asked, “dad, what did you do today that made you so happy?”

He replied “I ate potato chips in the park with God.” However, before his son responded, he added, “You know, he’s much younger than I expected.”

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime! Embrace all equally!

And that’s something you can hang your hat on.

Well, on Friday night, I couldn’t have been more surprised if I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet on a couple of levels.  First, as an avid movie-goer, I NEVER thought I would see a movie that was so big, that in a theater with 22 screens (Regal Stonecrest), it would be shown simultaneously on…11 of them!  And, the picture above is the line we were in for the 9:15 show.  Did I mention there were 10 OTHER SHOWINGS OF THIS THING GOING ON?!  The “thing” I’m referring to, of course, is “The Hunger Games.”

The film is based on a trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins, which have sold 30 million copies worldwide.  So, I guess it should have occurred to me that it would be a large opening weekend-and it did-but not like this.

“The Hunger Games” blew up the box office over the weekend, taking in $155 million — making it the third biggest movie opening ever, after last year’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” ($169 million) and the 2008 Batman movie “The Dark Knight ($158 million).”

The film easily beat all of the Twilight openings — the biggest for that franchise was 2009′s “New Moon” which took in $142 on opening weekend.

That’s right, “The Hunger Games” is almost as big as Harry Potter and Batman and IS bigger than pale, brooding, teenage vampires!  WOW!

How was it?  I’ve never read the books, and I was entertained.  Our son, Hogan, thought it was the most suspenseful movie he’s ever seen (take that with a grain of salt…he’s 10, how big a frame of reference can he have?).  And Debbie?  Well, she’s read the book, and for her, the movie WASN’T BLOODY ENOUGH!  But hey, that’s how she rolls.

If nothing else, check it out because after this weekend, you can bet the other two books will be sequels and you’ll need to be in the loop.
